Dependencies

Dependencies allow you to create relationships between tasks, ensuring that work progresses in a structured manner. When setting up dependencies in a project, you can choose an automatic date shifting option to manage how task dates adjust based on changes to related tasks.

Date shifting options

When adding dependencies, you can select one of the following options:

  • Shift only when dates overlap: Dependent tasks will shift their due dates only if they overlap with the preceding task.
  • Shift & maintain time between items: The time gap between tasks will be preserved when rescheduling. If one task moves, its dependent tasks will adjust while maintaining the same interval.
  • Do not automatically shift: Task dates will remain unchanged, even if their dependencies are rescheduled.

Managing dependencies

After adding dependencies to a project, you will see Blocking and Blocked by fields in each task. These fields help you track and manage dependencies by showing which tasks are preventing progress and which tasks are waiting for completion.
